The Financial Capability Institute seeks to empower nonprofits to improve the financial lives of their clients with high-quality financial products.
CFSI, with support of the Citi Foundation, launched www.Financial-Capability.org as a tool for nonprofits to self asses their readiness for financial product distribution, and access tools to help them through the process of product distribution.
During this demonstration, Monica SanMiguel, Program Manager, CFSI, shared about this new tool and took questions from participants.

Joshua Turnbull, Director, Consulting will speak on a webinar provided by Opportunity Finance Network titled “Adding New Microfinance Products to Achieve Scale and Increase Impact” on May 14 at 2 p.m. EDT. This webinar is one in a series of ten webinars provided as part of the Capacity Building Initiative’s “Scaling Up Microfinance” series. Turnbull will discuss the needs of underserved consumers and the role Community Development Financial Institutions play in meeting those needs with innovative product offerings.

On November 1, CFSI released it's second annual Underbanked Market Size study in conjunction with Core Innovation Capital. The new and expanded 2011 Underbanked Market Size report, sponsored by Morgan Stanley, examines the current landscape, growth patterns and key trends driving more than twenty financial products serving underbanked consumers in the United States today. The credit, payment, deposit and other products that comprise the underbanked market collectively generated $78 billion in revenue in 2011, a 7% increase from the previous year.

On Thursday, October 25 at 6:00 PM ET, CFSI and D2D Fund hosted our first FinCapDev interactive webinar. The webinar was primarily for developers, designers, students, tech teams, and anyone who is thinking about applying to the FinCapDev Competition.
During this webinar, Libby Leffler, a Strategic Partner Manager at Facebook walked us through Facebook best practices, social plugins and an overview of Facebook's Open Graph: what it is, what it allows you to do, why it's important and how it can help you make a great mobile app.

Libby Leffler, Strategic Partner Manager at Facebook:
Leffler works with the public figures, non-profits, cultural institutions and media organizations that partner with Facebook around high-impact integrations. Libby was the co-anchor of “Facebook Live”, the company's official video streaming channel, during the 2011 and 2012 World Economic Forum meetings in Davos, Switzerland.
From 2009-2012, Libby was the Business Lead to Facebook's Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg. As the Business Lead to the Chief Operating Officer, Libby managed public appearances, speaking engagements and handled a wide array of projects including research and analysis initiatives.
Libby joined Facebook in 2008 as a member of the Inside Sales team, working with marketers in the retail and consumer products segments. Prior to Facebook, Libby worked in Online Sales and Operations and Asia Pacific and Latin America markets at Google.

There has been increased discussion lately about bringing responsible prepaid cards into the mix of products promoted through Bank On programs.
On September 7 at 10 ET, Romy Parzick, Manager, Innovation and Research, will join Dan Quan from CFPB in a discussion about these products.
Quan will discuss issues related to these types of cards followed by Parzick who will discuss CFSI's Compass Principles Guide to Prepaid.
