Last fall, CFSI launched its inaugural Underbanked Industry Scan survey, our first-ever attempt to create a complete profile of the existing supply of financial products and services for the U.S. underbanked population. We surveyed the entire spectrum of suppliers to the underbanked market: banks, credit unions, prepaid providers, nonprofit providers, retail financial services outlets, check cashers, payday lenders, and other direct suppliers of products and services. The information gathered includes new details about specific product offerings, provider results and customer usage of products.
Attached below is an overview of the findings. The knowledge briefs that we have created are: an overview piece covering details about why we conducted the study, methodology, highlights, market-level findings on perceptions about serving the underbanked market plus four briefs that go into more detail on product-findings, as well as a brief covering some of the differences in perceptions about the market by different types of organizations.
