Viewpoint: Obama Plan Underserves Underbanked

The Consumer Financial Protection Agency proposed by President Obama has the potential to be a champion for financial services innovation that promotes greater inclusion of the underbanked.  Unfortunately, the current plan is virtually all sticks and no carrots. While access to financial services is billed as a core principle of the proposed agency, the plan offers few details about how access would actually be improved.

Green Dot Fee Plan Could Signal Prepaid Evolution

Underbanked Consumers Tell Their Stories in New Video

This article notes that Jennifer Tescher premiered CFSI's first video production, “CFSI: Innovation in Action.” The Citi Foundation funded this video which offers success story interviews from consumers using prepaid cards, new small-dollar products, and in-bank check cashing/second chance accounts and showcases innovative companies including KeyBank, NetSpend and Progress Financial.
